Open Enrollment Time for Community Supported Agriculture Groups (CSA) in Jersey City 2014

It's that time of year again!  Open enrollment for Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) groups.

In case you're not familiar with community supported agriculture the idea is that by joining a CSA you are supporting a local farm through your membership and in return you benefit by receiving a steady stream of fresh produce throughout the season, typically once a week at a pick-up location in the neighborhood.  You usually also have an opportunity to volunteer either/or at the pick-location or a day at the farm.

Here are a few CSAs with pick-ups in Jersey City you may want to consider joining:

Downtown Harvest
Full share is $600 ($625 after April 1 if available) + $20 administration fee
Split shares allowed, $40 administration fee
Season runs June to November (24 weeks)
Pickup at OLC Church at 120 Sussex Street in Paulus Hook on Wednesdays 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Sunny Farm Berries & Veggies

Season runs April through July, separate option for August to October
Pick up at DOCO Market in Hamilton Park or at their Liberty Avenue location in the Heights on Wednesdays (home delivery available for Hoboken members)

Poplar Wood Farm
Large share is $995, regular share $565 with optional flower and egg share add-ons
Pick up at the Grove Street Farmers Market on Thursdays from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm or at the Hamilton Park Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Stony Hill Farms
Full share is $865, half share for $530, optional add-on for eggs
Season runs June to November (24 weeks)
Pick up at Grove Street Farmers Market on Thursdays between 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm or at the Paulus Hook Farmers Market on Saturdays between 11 am - 4 pm (at the end of Washington Street near the Korean War Memorial)

Journal Square CSA
Full vegetable share is $462, small vegetable share is $286
Vegetable shares run June 2rd to November 3rd (22 weeks)
Fruit share for $221 starting July 7th (17 weeks)
Flower share for $96
Pick up at Hudson Pride Connections Center, 32 Jones Street, about 3 blocks from Journal Square, on Mondays between 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Update (4/8/14): The new market at 29 McWilliams Place (formerly DOCO) is now Goods & Greens and will be offering a CSA through Veritas Farms for $575 for a 20 week season, sign up by April 10th by visiting Goods & Greens or email info(at)veritasfarms.com to reserve a spot.
