Events in Jersey City for the Weekend of May 2-4, 2014

Another great weekend is upon us in Jersey City!  Here is a round-up of the upcoming events in Jersey City this weekend:

Friday, May 2nd:

4:00 pm to 12:00 am at 279 Grove Street (across from City Hall)
Cinco de Mayo Parade and Fiesta
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a parade and fiesta on Friday, May 2nd across from City Hall at 279 Grove Street starting at 4 pm until midnight.

Saturday, May 3rd:

8:30 am at 100 Town Square Square Place
Annual Newport 10K Road Race
The annual Newport 10K road race takes runners through the downtown Jersey City neighborhoods and finishes with amazing views along the waterfront.  The race is followed by festivities at Newport Town Square including music, refreshments and prize drawings.

12:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Grove Street PATH Plaza
The 5th Annual Fourth Street Arts' Chili Cook-Off
This year's cook-off will be all afternoon event of live music, kids activities, home brewed beer by the Jersey City Brew Club and of course the chili competition!  Tickets can be purchased online.

4:00 pm at 9C Tavern
2014 Kentucky Derby Viewing Party at 9th & Coles Tavern
Enjoy a mint julep and watch the Kentucky Derby at 9C Tavern at 174 Coles Street in Hamilton Park.

7:30 pm
Van Vorst Park Association Wine Tasting Event: Sip & Savor
Support the Van Vorst Park Association and enjoy an evening of hand-picked wines paired with light food. $75 per person and you can reserve your seat by emailing vvpanews(at)gmail.com or pay via PayPal at http://vvpa.org/2014/04/wine-tasting-event/

Sunday, May 4th:

9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Riverview-Fisk Park
Riverview Farmers Market Opening Day
The Riverview Farmers Market in the Heights kicks off their fourth season with an opening day celebration including PiƱata-making for kids (10 am), Yoga in the Heights donation-based outdoor yoga class (11 am) and a performance by the acoustic bluegrass band West Circle Drive (12 pm).
